Many of our customer ask these questions, so in an effort to explain we have consolidated them here. Soy candles
Soy candles have to following advantages compared to
paraffin wax candles:
- Soy wax is also made from a renewable source.
-
Soy wax is all-natural - Soy wax is a favorite of environmentally
conscious people because it is not made from petroleum, like paraffin
candles.
- Burning of soy candles does not increase the CO2 level
in the atmosphere.
- Soy candles last longer - They can last up to 50% longer than
paraffin candles.
- Wax spills
are easy to clean - It's very difficult to remove paraffin wax from
furniture or textiles. Soy wax spills can easily be cleaned up with hot
soapy water.
- Soy candles
produce less soot - Soot should be avoided because it is very unhealthy
and can eventually coat furniture and walls.
- Soy
candles produce about 90% less soot that paraffin candles.
Scented soy candles distribute fragrance than paraffin candles - The
incorporation of soybean oil lowers the melting point of the candle,
which translates into cooler burning candles and faster scent
dispersion. The lower melting point of soy wax results in a larger size
of the liquid wax pool around the candle wick. It is from this liquid
wax pool that the essential oils evaporate into the atmosphere.
Gel Candles Gel candles have the following advantages:Gel candle wax is
made from a combination of processed mineral oil and
a gelling agent. It is clear and has a rubbery texture- it looks
somewhat like hair gel. Candle in the Wind uses gel to show off the
decorative themes we come up with. We color it, hand-pour it into our
wide variety of glass and handpainted containers, add custom artisan
components and use our favorite fragrances to make a beautiful item to
give.
Gel vs. Paraffin Wax:Gel candle wax is
not actually wax - and because of that is NOT petroleum based. This
means that our gel is Eco-friendly and cleans up easily and burns clean.
Gel
candles also last up to 3 times longer than conventional candles since they burn
at a much slower rate.
Things
to know about our gel candles:When
you receive a Candle in the Wind gel candle, leave the candle(s) on
a level surface for 24 hours to allow gel to even out as gel may shift,
during shipping. Your candles will arrive with wicks trimmed to proper
height. Keeping wick trimmed to 1/4" will keep your candle burning
cleaner and longer.
Keep the flame going all night long..Our gel candles are refillable and can be used over
and over. Click

General Candle Questions Every wick we use is of the highest quality of spun material. The core of every wick is zinc which is non-toxic unlike less quality candles found on the market. So the silver looking thread in the core is just zinc. Q: How do gel and wax burn time compare? Gel candles are more eco-friendly because they leave no residue an do not drip like wax does. Most gel candles that are same size as wax candles burn at least 3 times LONGER THAN WAX. Do the environment and your pocketbook a favor and buy gel when you can.
Q: What is the gel made of? The gel is made of specially selected and processed mineral oil. They are gelled with copolymers that give them a transparent rubbery texture.
Q: Do you make your own gel? No, we purchase our gel from an ISO9001 certified and authorized manufacturer. We test our gels regularly for stability and clean burn.
Q: Will the gel be damaged in extremely hot or cold environments? The gel is highly resistant to extreme temperatures.
Q: Are the gel candles refillable? The majority of our candles are refillable. Once they have been burned, you can place refills in the center and use them over and over again. The ability to use them forever makes them the ideal gift or home accent.

Q: Are your candles machine made? All of our candles are individually designed and hand made in the USA and abroad. Every candle is hand assembled and hand poured and no two candles are exactly alike in that way giving each and every candle its own "personality".
